The Banner was designed and made by
Gloria Allen, her daughter--Kimberly Allen Capps, and her uncle--Albert Clark.

From Kimberly Allen Capps, Monday, June 19, 2017:

Hello Fellow HikaNation folks! My Mom (Gloria) and I (Kim) designed and drew up the banner way back in the planning stages of that first hike! My Mom, her Uncle Al, and I worked on that thing for a couple months! We really enjoyed the way it came out and so did the committee that asked us to put it together for HikaNation!

I have the Banner and besides hanging it in my garage it is totally going unnoticed by the world! Mom and I would love to see it appreciated by all that saw it on that first tour of the nation so we are donating it to HikaNation for use at their reunions and exhibits!

I did find some other letters and pictures. The letters were from Dr. Glenn Seaborg; this alone thrills me to no end that he, such a famous scientist, sent my school a letter hoping they would excuse me for 2 weeks in my senior year of high school to be with this group in Nevada at that time! Don't you know the school was not very happy I would be gone all that time! They made me fell really crummy about it, but looking back on it it made me happy they didn't approve! I had a great time on that trip, minus their wishes! I only hiked a small portion in San Francisco and between Walker Lake and Mina, Nevada, but I remember how great it was!

My Mom, Dad and I were really intrigued about that part of the hike as my Mom spent her childhood in that part of the desert, Mina-Tonopah area! Her father was a miner and was always looking for work in the area! Our family spent many trips traveling that area to visit family before the HikaNation was even a thought!

Fast forward to Nevada in middle of May, we drove out of Walker Lake the day before and located where the hikers would be coming through. Behind me they would start to file through from Luckyboy Pass in a foot of snow the next day!

May 20, 1980 (approx). I was driving Monty's van just out of Tonopah waiting for the hikers again at Miller Springs! Monty I think was exhausted and asked me if I'd drive the desert while we searched for the first of the hikers! Of course I was thrilled to drive out in the middle of no where (in Nevada).
