 Validation Results

The point of this "comparisons" webpage is to provide quick and easy access to actual validation results to some of the various "advanced editor" methods currently being used.

The demo pages are written in a similar format with the only key difference being the type of "advanced editor" used on the page, so that the validation errors caused by that particular "advanced editor" method can be "isolated".

Despite the validation errors, all of the demo pages view as intended with the 2.7 upgrade version of Webtv and on an iMac using Internet Explorer 5 and Netscape 6.

Some people claim that their method validates "the best" (kdine) and others say that certain validation errors "don't occur" (jaxred), but these very simple demo pages and validation results dispel those misleading statements.

The comment tag method (p.dutton), the script-comment tag method (jaxred/kdine) and the comment-script tag method (rtcamm) produce the same validation errors at the 3.2 level.

The comment tag method (p.dutton) and the comment-script tag method (rtcamm) produce fewer validation errors than the other methods at the 4.01-T level.

Observations

Using http://www.anybrowser.com (3.2 version)

The comment tag, the script-comment tag and the comment-script tag methods produce the same validation errors ("markup embedded in a comment can confuse some browsers" and an unmatched

tag); the other errors generated on the page are due to Webtv's automatically inserted codes which are not correctable by the user.

The other methods (script-multi_line, script, noscript, and "Bunny's Way") produce several other different errors.

Using http://validator.w3.org/ (w3c 3.2 version)

The comment tag, the script-comment tag and the comment-script tag methods produce one error (an unmatched

tag); the other errors generated on the page are due to Webtv's automatically inserted codes which are not correctable by the user.

The other methods (script-multi_line, script, noscript, and "Bunny's Way") produce several other different errors.

Using http://watson.addy.com

The comment tag, the script-comment tag and the comment-script tag methods produce several, very similar validation errors.

The other methods (script-multi_line, script, noscript, and "Bunny's Way") produce several other different errors.

Using http://validator.w3.org/ (4.01--Transitional version)

The comment tag method (p.dutton) and the comment-script tag method (rtcamm) produce one validaton error (an unmatched

tag); the other errors generated on the page are due to Webtv's automatically inserted codes which are not correctable by the user.

The script-comment tag method (jaxred/kdine) produces
several other different errors.

The other methods (script-multi_line, script, noscript, and "Bunny's Way") produce several other different errors.

Despite the validation errors, all of the pages above view as intended with the Webtv 2.7 upgrade, and on an iMac using
Internet Explorer 5 and Netscape 6.
