Appropriations Hearings for Fiscal Year 1981

HikaNation was a joint sponsorship by the American Hiking Society and the United States Department of the Interior Heritage Conservation and Recreation Service. The HCRS lent its name to HikaNation as a "co-sponsor" but no funds were provided. The purpose of HikaNation was to gather information on the number of trails available for foot travel in America and the needs of hikers as they go along the route of HikaNation. The hike was also an effort to dramatize the amount of highway and road hiking that are necessary in order to walk from one shore of our nation to the other and to promote hiking as a low energy consumption form of recreation.
