Collegiate Peaks Backpack Trip
July 19 - August 8, 2022

John Lamar Mills, Jr. posted a multitude of photos (to his Facebook page) from a 3-week long backpacking trip, clockwise, of the Collegiate Peaks loop of the Colorado Trail (CT)/Continental Divide Trail (CDT), planned & organized by Tim Geoghegan; both were thru-hikers from the HikaNation cross-country backpack from April 1980 to May 1981. Also participating were Sharon Morrissey & Tish Butcher who hiked all or a significant portion of this transcontinental hike of 41-42 years ago. Unfortunately Lyle Bialk, another HikaNation participant & experienced backpacker, had to drop out at the last moment due to a foot injury.

(probably out of sequence but you get the gist of the hike)

The usual suspects before we departed on the hike.
Scott decided to not go on the hike.

Yes, that is Tish -
squished on our shuttle ride to the trail head on day one.

Old friends reunited...pre-hike.

The fearsome foursome.

Not so happy moment. Soaked through and through, we were
driven off the trail just after 3 days...hitched a ride to
Buena Vista to the Super 8 hotel.

Buena Vista Super 8 hotel

Don't ask - 3 days into the hike and we are off trail
and clean, warm, dry and eating real food.

Muhlenberg County ? Nope, somewhere along the CT.

One of many "shrooms" we learned about from Professor Butcher.

Daily afternoon storms required daily "dry out" sessions.

"Modern" rain gear...you can't make this shit up!

Eerily reminiscent of 1980-81.
